Model Confidential: Meet VS Pink Model Sara Sampaio!

In the latest interviews from our Model Confidential series, we’ve shared everything from what’s onAlessandra Ambrosio’s playlist, to where Lily Aldridge loves to shop in her spare time. This time around, we thought we switch things up a bit and introduce you to a gorgeous model you may not know— not yet anyways!

Last week, Modelinia had the chance to stop by the set the VS Pink ‘New Campus Essentials’ shoot, where we had some time to chat with the collection’s model face, Sara Sampaio.  Known for her sexy pout and resemblance to a fellow VS model, the Portuguese stunner has already appeared in ads for Victoria’s Secret, Calzadonia and Blumarine, not to mention a number of international covers for the likes of VogueElle and Glamour magazine.  With summer nearly in full swing and her 21st birthday just around the corner— her real birthday is July 21st— Sara has been busy planning her next big getaway, making her the perfect source for some fresh summer traveling and beach-gong tips!  From what’s on her playlist this season to how she manages to keep herself bikini-ready, Sara is revealing all that and more in our latest Model Confidential below:

1) You’re currently shooting the Victoria’s Secret Pink New Campus Essentials Collection.  Do you have any favorite pieces from the collection?

Yes, they have the new boyfriend sweat pants, and they are amazing!  The collection is just so relaxed, but they are things you can still wear out in public. They are really comfortable and you can wear like with boots and put like a leather jacket to make it more sporty or more casual. Right now, I love all of the prints and colors they come in, and I think they are starting to make leggings, which I love. Leggings are the best thing! They’re the easiest thing to have in your wardrobe.  If you don’t know what to put on—leggings. They go with everything. Even if it’s just a pair of black leggings, you can just put on a colorful top and you’re done. You can do whatever you want. They offer you so many different options that you can make it your own, I love that.

2) Summer is almost here.  Do you have any exciting travel plans?

I love any place that is hot! For me, a real vacation is just being on a beach, in the sand, not doing anything at all.  My favorite place that I have been was Hawaii. I want to go this summer there again. I’m trying to go for my birthday, because I’m a summer baby. I’ve already taken that week off, so I really just want to go to Hawaii and relax and maybe surf and get a tan. I also going to go home for sure and I might go to the South of France or the South of Spain.

3) What are some of your travel essentials?

When I go on planes, I always make sure I am comfortable.  Even before I started working with VS Pink, my travel uniform was always the Pink black leggings and their sweaters, because they are really comfortable and they keep you warm on the plane.  I top it off with just some boots or sneakers.  I also always carry my moisturizer, lip balm, eye drops, water, my laptop and good music for sure!

4) What songs are on your playlist this summer?

I’ve been obsessed with The Great Gatsby Soundtrack, especially $100 Bills by Jay-Z.  I also really love Justin Timberlake’s new album— I’m obsessed with “Mirrors.”  I go out and it starts playing in the club and I’m like, “Oh, my God, I know all of the lyrics” and I start singing.  I think Justin Timberlake’s album is going to be my summer soundtrack. Also, you got to love some Rihanna!

5) Anything on your summer reading list?

Well, I’m one of those people that if I get hold of a book, I will not stop reading it until its done, but then I’ll go a few months without reading another book.  Right now I’m in that phase where I’m not reading anything because I need to feel captivated by a book and I haven’t found one that makes me want to read non-stop yet.  Since I just saw The Great Gatsby though, I’ve been thinking that maybe I should read the book.  It’s not a book we read in Portugal, so I was really surprised by the movie and would like to read the whole story.

6) Are there any store that you make sure to visit when you’re traveling?

I’m obsessed with Rag and Bone. I think I have maybe all of the collection. But in New York I always like to shop in Soho because you can visit a lot of different types of stores. But I’m actually not that big of a shopper.  I just know what I like and go back to those places a lot. Rag & Bone is one of those.

7) How have you managed to maintain your beach-ready body?

Well, I work with a personal trainer, because I’m actually a really lazy person.  If I go to the gym by myself, I will just sit around and will find 100 other things to do besides working out.  But when I’m traveling, if the hotel I’m staying at has a gym I try to recreate the steps I do with my trainer, although sometimes I forget what we do, which is really bad.  I also like to just go outside and bicycle. Cardio is definitely the best thing you can do to keep fit.  Just keep your body  moving.  If you’re on vacation go for a run on the beach, or swim in the ocean.  As long as you’re moving it doesn’t matter what you’re doing.

8) What do carry in your beach bag?

Definitely my phone, my headphones and my sunscreen!  I always bring sunscreen because I get really dark.  I like to use SPF 50.  It’s really important to protect your skin, especially for me because I get really dark, but I also have sensitive skin.  I’ll also bring my beach towel, my bikini— well, I’ll be wearing that— and always some candy! My favorite is Skittles.  I’m obsessed with Skittles!  Sometimes I’m sitting at home watching TV and I’ll just start craving Skittles so I’ll have to run to Duane Reade and get some.  I’m always the one on the plane with the huge bag of Skittles, eating the whole bag and not sharing.

9) Is there any other model whose career you would like to emulate?

I’m a huge fan of Kate Moss!  Me and her are kind of the same height, so she always inspired me when people would say, “you’re too short for fashion, you’re too short for runway.”  But I don’t think I am; the other models are just too tall.  That’s how I see it.  So, she’s always been a huge inspiration to me, but there are a lot of other models I love.  I love Abbey Lee Kershaw and  I’ve always been a fan of Adriana Lima, Gisele, all of those big supermodels that have these amazing careers.

10) Finally, if you weren’t a model, what would you like to be?

That’s a good question.  When I was in school, I never knew what I wanted to do.  First I thought maybe I would try acting, but then I entered this modeling contest and won, so I thought maybe I would try that.  I got signed with an agency after that and I started getting booked for jobs and I thought, “wow, maybe I do like this.”  I’m really lucky that fashion kind of found me, because I really, really enjoy it now and I don’t know what else I would have done.  Some day, I would love to go back and try acting too.
