Rachel: When did you first get into Fashion?
Fleur: I’ve always wanted to be a stylist from as long as I can remember but I’ve worked on different sides of Fashion on my way to doing so. I grew up in Bath and tried to utalize whatever creative Fashion Skills I could from buying to merchandising. I moved to London as a personal shopper and assisted several Stylists to gain skills before finally branching out on my own
R: Did you used to style yourself from a young age?
F: Yes absolutely I used to put on my favourite outfit instead of my school uniform in the hope that my parents would let me stay home. My mother also made be alot of my clothes and shed let me have imput into how Id like them I always knew what I wanted when it came to Fashion.
R:Who was your inspiration growing up?
F: My Mother was a big one as she was and still is a beautiful elegant women who carries clothes effortlessly. She has a wonderful sense of style so growing up with her was a great opportunity to discover textures, colours and era’s of clothing.
R: Having a Mum who Modelled must have introduced you to Fashion from a young age, did you used to borrow her clothes?
F: She wouldnt let me back then but I actually ask her if she still has items now that I remember her wearing as a child. I do remember her having seasonal wardrobes though and working her wardrobe like a machine I think that’s where my organisation comes from. My wardrobe is colour coordinated and every item has an exact place so I’d know if something had been moved when you have alot of clothes you have to have a system.
R: What has been the most exciting job of your career?
F: There has been a couple but one was meeting and picking out clothes for Skin who was one of my Fashion and Music icons growing up and also working with Harvey B Brown in music Videos. Its fantastic when you get a working relationship where your ideas and creativity are trusted plus you get to work with a props team its Theatrical Styling at its best.
R: Who are your fashion icons?
F: I’m not someone that holds particular people as icons its more periods of time or films. I’m a massive fan of the shapes of the 70’s tho I do have a comple obssession with Betsey Johnson Dresses and Balenciaga shoes.
R: How would you describe your individual style?
F: Native America with a hint of the 70’s I like working with Layers. I mix Designers with Vintage and High Street to get a look that’s my own. I like to have fun with clothes and think that you must continually evolve and try new things.
R: If you could dress anyone who would it be?
F: I actually really like Shinghai of the Noisettes. she looks like she’d be lots of fun to work with and you could go full out with someone like her. Its great to work with people who aren’t afraid to go for it.
R: You have recently had a baby but you have maintained your style, how do you do it?
F: I mantained it but didn’t change it. I didn’t wear any maternity clothes I just brought clothes in bigger sizes and I didnt hide the bump I showed it off. One thing that was a life saver tho was Anerican Apparrel Highwaisted leggings they went over the bump and gave a plain canvus to style over.
R: Who are your favourite designers and why?
F: Betsey Johnson, Acne, Balmin, Anna Sui, Karen Walker, Alexander Mcqueen, YSL, Miu Miu… Native America with a hint of the 70’s I like working with Layers. I mix Designers with Vintage and High Street to get a look that’s my own. I like to have fun with clothes and think that you must continually evolve and try new things. I also never differentiate Day wear and Evening wear I’d wear a prom dress in the day as well as the evening.
