With her bubbly, approachable personality, ease in front of a lens and a genuine love of movies, it's no wonder Robyn Bright (Models 1 Women) was snapped up by Sky Films to present the likes of 35mm and The Big Interview. With some exciting projects lined up in both the modelling and presenting worlds, things are hotting up. We caught up with her...

Before becoming a presenter you were a model, how did you make the move over?

I became a model at 15 and fell into presenting by chance when T4 was looking for a new presenter and I was sent in for a casting. I had various call backs and went on to do a show called Freshly Squeezed, a music program in connection with T4. Once I got that, I joined a presenting agency.  They asked me what my passions were and I felt that although I loved music, film was definitely my passion. Last summer they sent me to see Sky Movies and I got a contract with them to present the new launch of 35mm alongside Alex Zane.

I’m still doing a lot of work with them now, for their special features and The Big Interview and stuff like that. It’s been really nice.

What do you think stood you out from the rest?

You know, I don’t know, there were a lot of people going for it. It was just me and a bloke talking in one room with a camera and he just asked me about my likes and dislikes. I don’t know if it was looks, and I was what they were looking for at the time. They did say that a surprising number of people freeze in front of the camera. I think modelling helped because I was used to being in front of the camera for commercial castings, so I’d had a bit of practice there.

You must have interviewed some amazing people. Have any stood out for you in particular?

Meryl Streep. I interviewed her earlier in the year for the Iron Lady. We were the only TV interviews she was doing, us and one other political program. As an entertainment outlet the fact that we were the only people who got to interview her was very exciting. She was a massive hero of mine anyway, so when I started the job I was like, if I could get Meryl Streep or Gary Oldman I’m happy, and I’ve interviewed both of them which is awesome!

When interviewing, do you have a set of questions or play it by ear?

Yeah, normally you have a subject in mind, which is usually a film their promoting. Before the interview I sit down with the producer and discuss a general outline. Ultimately, you want to talk to them about the movie and get them to talk about the role in general. So you just go along with it and try to keep it as conversational as I can. Luckily my first question with Meryl for example went on for ages because from that she could just talk about loads of stuff, and before you know it you’re having a conversation with Meryl Streep!

Is there anyone else you’d love to interview?

I did the Empire film awards recently so I had loads of amazing people there. Luckily Sky’s a great outlet for films so we’re really lucky that they’re all quite willing to do interviews with us. Their PR’s would literally throw them at me. It felt like a conveyer belt of huge film and TV stars coming to me, I was like yes yes! Let’s keep going!

Do you ever get star struck?

I have been definitely, with Meryl Streep and Gary Oldman. I did tell him that. I’m not really sure he understood, but I was like “oh no you don’t understand, I’ve loved you since I was 11” Film is such a passion of mine I’m usually just thrilled to be talking to them about what they’re doing.

Have you ever thought about going into acting yourself?

I don’t think I could to be honest, I think I’m much better asking questions than trying to learn an entire script. I think we’d be there all day!

How do modelling and presenting go together?

Well, it’s actually one of the reasons I came to Models 1, I feel like they’re the agency that it works best with. Daniel (Models 1 Special Bookings) and I have been talking loads and now I’m with Jo on the Women’s division, and it’s really easy. Daniel has a really good relationship with my presenting agent so if a diary clash came up I don’t think it would be a problem. So it’s been totally fine, they’ve been able to work completely around each other. I’ve been lucky!

What has been your most memorable modelling job?

That’s a tough one, I’ve been doing it so long now that I’ve had some amazing jobs. I remember when I was 16 I got flown out to Miami to shoot the Tammy Girl campaign. That was amazing! It was all the rave then and all my friends knew what it was about, and to be flown out to Miami, well that was awesome.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Watch movies, how sad is that! I do though, I love films. It’s something I’ve always done. It’s genuinely a pleasure of mine to sit and watch movies, I’m such a nerd. Otherwise I love swimming, I used to do a lot and I miss it, so I try to swim when I can. I’m a big pub girl, there’s nothing better than having a good old catch up with friends sitting in a nice little pub!

As film is your main passion, would you consider moving to Hollywood?

Perhaps. In terms of presenting, the states could probably get me there but I’m not sure I really want to try and break the American market as a British TV presenter. This feels really comfortable at the moment, and I really want to excel in what I’m doing first before I think about spreading myself too thin.

You must have travelled to some amazing places through modelling. Is there anywhere you’d love to visit?

It’s quite close to home but I’m fascinated by ancient Egypt, and I’d love to check out the pyramids and the history there. I guess it would also be nice to go to somewhere like the Maldives or Seychelles, but I’m from Bermuda which is like paradise so I could just go and chill there with my family!

How has modelling changed since you started out?

I definitely see the difference from when I started and now. There are loads more girls! Other than that it’s pretty much the same, and still seen as very glamorous. All I want to say to new girls is, brace yourselves! Having said that, it really toughened me up and going into presenting you need nerves of steel.

What should we be looking out for later this year from you?

I have more bits coming up for Sky. Otherwise getting my show real out and meeting new people, it’s exciting!
