INTRODUCING || DIEGO SCHIBELOSKE

In town from Brazil, Diego Schibeloske (Models 1 Men) talks about his first impressions of London and how Brazilian pizzas are the best in the world.

What are your first impressions of London?

It’s so cool, the people here are really nice.  In Brazil, my hometown, everyone is really friendly so I notice if a country isn’t very open. I’ve been to other parts of Europe before and people are not as friendly – but I love London, there is a magic about it!

How did you get into modelling?

When I was 16, I went along with my friend who was stopping by an agency in Brazil. The owner of the agency saw me, and asked me if I wanted to pose for some pictures. I said yes, even though I wasn’t totally sure if I really wanted to go into the industry. But, after my first job I really enjoyed it, and just kept going from there. I especially enjoyed the travelling and meeting new cultures, and right now I am on my fourth language.  I speak Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and English… and now I’m going for Japanese!

Impressive! What has been your best destination whilst working so far?

That’s really difficult. You get a job that is really cool one month, and then you get a job the month after that is even cooler! I think my favourite so far is when I did a perfume campaign in Thailand, it was really awesome. The whole shoot was on the beach, just chilling…awesome.

Is there anywhere else for you that could top Thailand for a shoot?

Probably Brazil.  It’s my hometown and its summer at the moment, so would love to go back to the hot weather- it’s so cold here in London! I’ve haven’t shot in Brazil yet, I would love to shoot in Rio. I’m from a town called Curitiba, its so different to the cities I normally work in, there are trees everywhere. People are so friendly, plus there’s the cheap food, cheap fruits, AND cheap barbecue.  I miss the food in my hometown. I love it!

Is it true how they say that Brazilian women are the most beautiful women in the world?

(Diego nods… and smiles…)

Do you have any hobbies when at home?

I love horse jumping, surfing… and cooking. My signature meal is pizza, which sounds simple, but like homemade Brazilian pizza. I make the dough from scratch, and the best toppings combination is bacon corn and onions. In Brazil the pizza is very different to Italian pizza. Italian pizza is still very tasty… but it is so thin! In Brazil we like it thick, so much bacon, so much cheese – it’s like 4 inches thick. I’m not even kidding!

If you could have a superpower for the day what would it be and why?

Reading people’s minds would be cool, but it might get a little bit crazy if you went to like a public place. Sitting on the tube you would hear everyone’s thoughts. So maybe I’d prefer time travelling, going back in time, stopping time. Maybe go back to the Woodstock festival in the 60’s and then come back and do a casting!

How would you describe your style?

I have started getting into fashion a bit more now from working in this industry, but generally I am a little bit skater/a little bit chilled. I like comfortable clothes so I can go to a casting and look plain, but then also am able to go skate boarding after.

If you had to describe yourself in 3 words…

Thoughtful. (Long pause). Ah, now I’m taking lots of time thinking of the other words so that shows I’m thoughtful! I’m always laughing, so light-hearted, and I love to learn new things… so I’d say I’m curious.

What’s your ideal dinner date with anyone (dead or alive)?

I’d drink a “cup of tea” Janis Joplin. I would love to meet her.
