10 Questions — How Two Live

We recently signed Australian bloggers How Two Live after we caught them on Instagram and were instantly drawn to their exciting use of bright colours and individual style. Although they look the same, they are in fact a few years apart which helps to contribute to originality as they both takes elements of their age and lifestyle and inject it into their blog and social media. We had to sit down with these two and get to them better.
How was How Two Live born?
We’ve grown up together in Melbourne, Australia, and always lived in the same house, had a joint wardrobe, and shared pretty much everything. When Stef was moving to Paris for six months in 2012 we thought a blog would be a cool way to keep up to date with each other’s adventures and latest purchases.
Where did you find your name?
We actually asked our brother if he could think of anything, and he came up with the tagline ‘Fashion, Culture & How To Live’. We round tabled it one night with our extended family and someone was like just ‘How To Live’ would be an awesome name, and then we were like wait a second, How Two Live!
What’s a typical day for you?
The best thing about our job is that we play so many different roles, so two days are very rarely the same. There are always a few hours in the morning on emails, and from there it’s a mix of styling product, shooting for our blog or a brand, meetings, working on our shoe label, and often an event in the evening. Right now we’re in Tokyo so during the day we’re attending shows and events, running home to write about them, and then finding a little time for shopping where we can!
Whose wardrobe do you wish you had?
We would looove to steal everything in Anna Dello Russo’s closet! Her wardrobe holds all the colours and prints a girl could dream of, and she’s also constantly in the new season of all the big labels which we can’t quite afford.
How has your style evolved?
Believe it or not we used to wear a LOT of black (a couple of people still refer to us as Morticia and Wednesday), but over the last few years we’ve formed a big love affair with colour. When we started blogging we realised our more colourful outfits looked better in photos, and pretty quickly we became known for our bright ensembles.
Where are your favourite places to shop?
There are a lot of incredible Australian labels, some of our favourites are Shakuhachi, Alice McCall, and Emma Mulholland. We were in London last year and our favourite boutique there would have to be Lazy Oaf. Our go-to online stores are usually Nasty Gal, ASOS and Urban Outfitters.
How many followers do you have now?
115,000 Instagram followers. We’re excited to be officially launching our YouTube channel and we can’t wait to begin growing our following on there!
What advice would you give to aspiring bloggers?
We had a girl come up to us the other day and say she loves How Two Live because we started our blog for fun not for fame. Try to make your blog something you love and people will love it too! Social media is also the biggest tool to get the word out there, so make sure you’re sharing across multiple platforms.
Which other bloggers are you following?
Man Repeller, Susie Bubble and Fashion Hayley are our all-time favourites, and in Tokyo we’ve just discovered a blogger called Misha Janette; we met her at the Dress Camp show and her style is incredible.
What would the How Two Live dream be?
We’ve always said we would love to visit Tokyo, so to be here for fashion week and writing for ELLEgirl Japan is a big tick off our bucket list!
